The Early Support booklet on Speech and Language Difficulties is a very thorough introduction to the whole subject. Published as part of a government initiative for England only. This is available free of charge, from Prolog who is the distributor for the Department for Education and can be obtained by calling 0845 602 2260 and quoting ref: ES14.
