On January 29th 2016, Edward Timpson, the Minister responsible for SEND, announced that the Government had allocated £80 million over the next year to help deliver the SEND reforms introduced in 2014. The money will be used in the following ways:
- £35.8 million will go to local authorities to help fund the additional duties they face as a result of the transition to EHC Plans
- £27.3 million will go to the Family Fund Trust who provide grants for low income families with disabled children
- £15 million will fund the Independent Supporters programme
- £2.3 million will go to Parent Carer Forums
In addition, the Government has pledged to provide a similar level of funding next year, to see through the period of transition to the new SEND system which should be complete by April 2018.
