Afasic meeting with the DfE about the needs of SLCN children

On Tuesday, 28 November 2017, Linda Lascelles, Afasic CEO, and Alison Huneke, Helpline Manager, met two senior officials at the Department for Education. We were able to explain to them how DLD and other forms of SLCN affect children, how difficult they are to identify and how hard it is to access the right help.

We particularly stressed the vital role of speech and language therapy and the inadequacy of current provision. We will continue working with the Department and colleagues in other SLCN organisations to raise the profile of the disability and improve services for children and young people.
