Would you like to volunteer on our fantastic summer programme that helps children with Developmental Language Disorders (DLD) and other speech and language difficulties feel more confident about transitioning into secondary school?
We have at least 15 Secondary Starter Transition courses running this summer holidays in London and around the country & are seeking volunteers who might enjoy a week supporting young people. This is excellent experience in preparation for a career in Speech and Language therapy (SLT), Education, Psychology or other work with children.
The programme includes a mixture of fun activities and interactive games which help build children’s social skills, such as forming friendships whilst fostering independence; raising self-esteem and also awareness of bullying.
Secondary school can be daunting for any rising year 7 child but especially so for those with speech and language difficulties. By volunteering with Afasic on a summer course you will make a real difference! For more information about our summer courses click here.
“Volunteering on Afasic’s primary to secondary transition course in Newham last week was a great experience for me. I have recently been thinking seriously about applying for the SLT Master’s programme, and I was really happy to meet three talented practitioners in this area who I could observe and ask questions of…” Afasic Volunteer May 2019
