What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a Government scheme, which allows charities to claim the basic rate tax on every pound donated. Giving under Gift Aid means that 25% more money can be raised, at no additional cost to our donors. For example, if you donated £100 to Afasic, we would receive £125.
Do I qualify?
If you are a UK tax payer, yes. Even if you are not employed, you are still eligible if you are paying tax on any of the following:
- Capital gains tax
- Personal or occupational pension
- Stocks and shares
- Bank and building society savings accounts
- Rental income
- Overseas and UK investment dividends
How does it work?
As soon as you give your permission we can claim the tax back on your donation. You provide your permission by completing our Gift Aid declaration form, which can be downloaded below, and sending it to us in the office.
What if I pay a higher rate of tax?
If you pay tax at a rate of 40% or above, you can claim the difference between the higher and basic rate on your donation. Do this:
- through your Self Assessment tax return
- by asking HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) to amend your tax code
